Special traffic and transport arrangements for public processions on Hong Kong Island this Saturday
******************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (November 28) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in phases on Hong Kong Island from about 10.30am this Saturday (November 30) to facilitate the holding of public processions.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closures
-------------

Phase I

     The following roads will be intermittently closed from about 10.30am:

1. Marble Road westbound;
2. Kam Hong Street southbound;
3. King's Road westbound;
4. Causeway Road westbound;
5. Irving Street westbound;
6. Pennington Street;
7. Yee Wo Street westbound;
8. Hennessy Road westbound; and
9. Queensway westbound.

Phase II

     From about noon, Queensway eastbound will be intermittently closed.

Phase III

     The following roads will be closed from about 1.15pm:

1. Rodney Street;
2. The section of Harcourt Road westbound between the exit of Harcourt Garden car park and Tamar Street;
3. The fast lane of the section of Harcourt Road westbound between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
4. The section of Harcourt Road eastbound between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
5. Tim Wa Avenue southbound (except vehicles heading for the Chief Executive's Office and Central Government Offices car park);
6. The fast lane of Garden Road flyover; and
7. Edinburgh Place southbound between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.

Public transport services
-------------------------

     A total of 22 bus routes and one green minibus route operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The public transport operators concerned will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     Due to road closures in Eastern, Wan Chai and Central Districts, the TD anticipates that traffic in the affected area will be congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. Members of the public going to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). For enquiries, please call 1823.
