Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 560 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 53 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (November 18) and a total of 259 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 406 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 154 for other traffic offences.

     Thirty-one pedestrians and 93 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,496 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to October this year, of which 805 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 46.7 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
