************************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (November 18) welcomed the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC)'s submission of the first batch of six research reports to the Government and its release to the public.

Since its establishment in January, the FSDC has, on the basis of its consultation with the trade, conducted comprehensive and in-depth research, and made constructive recommendations to further promote the development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and map out the strategic direction for development. The reports also provide a list of very concrete proposals for facilitating diversification of the financial services industry and enhancing the position and functions of Hong Kong as an international financial centre," the Chief Executive said.

"The Government and related regulators will carefully study the reports and follow up proactively. As a high-level and effective cross-sectoral platform, the FSDC will continue to make recommendations to the Government on how best the financial services industry is to be further developed for the benefit of the different sectors of the community."
