***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council (LegCo) will hold a meeting on Wednesday (November 20) at 11am in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. During the meeting, Members will debate a motion on reducing taxes across the board.

The motion, to be moved by Mr Paul Tse, states: "That this Council urges the SAR Government to expeditiously reduce taxes across the board to return wealth to the people."

Ms Chan Yuen-han, Mr Frederick Fung, Mr Kenneth Leung, Mr Jeffrey Lam, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Mr Cheung Kwok-che, Mr Sin Chung-kai, Mr Wong Ting-kwong and Mr Ronny Tong will move separate amendments to Mr Paul Tse's motion.

Dr Fernando Cheung will move a motion on setting up a commission on children. The motion states: "That at its meeting of June 6, 2007, the Legislative Council passed a Members' motion urging the Government to set up a commission on children to fulfill the obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, safeguard the well-being of children, and ensure that children's perspectives were fully taken into account in the process of formulating policies; subsequently, the Government only established the Family Council in response to the demands, but the Family Council does not focus on children's rights and well-being as its major areas of work; in this connection, this Council urges the Government to expeditiously set up a commission on children, so as to ensure that children's well-being and perspectives are fully taken into account in the process of formulating policies."

Dr Kenneth Chan and Ms Claudia Mo will move separate amendments to Dr Fernando Cheung's motion.

Meanwhile, Ms Cyd Ho will move a proposed resolution under section 34(4) of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to extend the period for amending the Air Pollution Control (Air Pollutant Emission) (Controlled Vehicles) Regulation laid on the table of the LegCo on October 30, 2013, to the meeting of December 18, 2013.

On Bill, Members will resume Second Reading debate on the Peak Tramway (Amendment) Bill 2013. If this Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, it will go to the Committee Stage and be read the third time.

Meanwhile, Members will also ask the Government 22 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.

The agenda of the above meeting can be obtained via the LegCo website (www.legco.gov.hk). Please note that the agenda is subject to change, and the latest information about the agenda could be found in the LegCo website.
