Hong Kong ICT Awards 2014 opens for enrolment

     The Hong Kong ICT Awards (HKICTA), a much celebrated annual event of the local information and communications technology (ICT) industry, opened for enrolment today (November 15). Applications and solutions developed in Hong Kong are welcome to take part in the contest to pursue the top honour in town.

     In its eighth edition, the HKICTA aims at recognising outstanding ICT products, solutions and applications, thereby encouraging innovation and excellence among Hong Kong's ICT professionals and enterprises in their pursuit of creative solutions to meet business and social needs.

     Steered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, and supported by the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the HKICTA 2014 is organised by 10 Hong Kong professional associations and trade bodies chosen through a competitive selection exercise.

     The Government Chief Information Officer and Chairman of the Steering Committee, Mr Daniel Lai, said that the HKICTA 2014 had set up two new award categories.

     He said, "In line with the Government's policy to support ICT startups, a new award category, Best ICT Startup Award, is launched this year to promote entrepreneurship and startup culture.

     "The Government has also strived to promote ICT among students for sustainable development of ICT manpower in Hong Kong. A dedicated new category, Best Student Invention Award, is therefore launched to arouse students' interest and promote their creativity in ICT innovation."

     The 10 categories of the HKICTA 2014 and their leading organisers are:

Best Business Solution Award: Hong Kong Computer Society
Best Digital Entertainment Award: Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association
Best Digital Inclusion Award: The Hong Kong Council of Social Service
Best Green ICT Award: Communications Association of Hong Kong
Best ICT Startup Award: Internet Society Hong Kong
Best Innovation Award: The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers - Information Technology Division
Best Lifestyle Award: Hong Kong Information Technology Federation
Best Mobile Apps Award: Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association
Best SME ICT Award: Information and Software Industry Association
Best Student Invention Award: Hong Kong New Emerging Technology Education Association

     There will be one Grand Award in each category, and the best of the best - the Award of the Year - will be selected by a Grand Adjudication Panel headed by the President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Timothy Tong, from the 10 Grand Awards. Enrolment in the HKICTA 2014 will close on January 24, 2014.
