Government welcomes MTRCL's withdrawal of $0.1 Octopus passenger contribution for retrofitting of platform screen doors and automatic platform gates
***********************************************************

In response to the Government's suggestion and having regard to views received from the public, the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) has announced it will withdraw the $0.1 contribution from passengers using Octopus cards travelling on six MTR lines for the retrofitting of platform screen doors (PSDs) and automatic platform gates (APGs) from December 1 (Sunday) this year, two months earlier than the original plan. A Transport and Housing Bureau spokesman said today (November 12) that the Government welcomed this arrangement.

The spokesman pointed out that, in addition, following discussion with the Government, the MTRCL decided that passengers would not have to make any additional contribution towards the cost of retrofitting APGs on the East Rail Line (EAL) and Ma On Shan Line (MOSL). Regarding the EAL, the MTRCL has agreed to absorb the construction costs through internal resources allocation. Regarding the MOSL, half of the cost of retrofitting APGs will be borne by the overall works of the Shatin to Central Link, while the rest will be borne by the MTRCL.
