Hospital Authority submits applications for Limited Registration to Medical Council
****************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (November 8) submitted the applications of three non-local doctors for Limited Registration to serve in public hospitals to the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK).

"Facing acute doctor manpower and workload issues in certain clinical units, the recruitment of non-local doctors has been supported by the respective Central Co-ordinating Committees and endorsed by the HA Task Force on Limited Registration Scheme," the HA spokesman said.

The HA is looking forward to the favourable consideration of the MCHK for the applications and will continue to exhaust every effort to relieve the current manpower shortfall situation. The spokesman remarked that in addition to the recruitment of overseas doctors under Limited Registration, the HA also takes the initiative to recruit local part-time doctors to relieve front line workload. There are currently 301 part-time doctors working in public hospitals.

The HA advertised at end of last year for the recruitment of non-local doctors under Limited Registration for the most pressurised specialties, and has successfully recruited six suitable doctors. Among them, the applications for Limited Registration of three doctors (one in Anesthesia and two in Emergency Medicine) were approved by the MCHK in June this year, while the applications for Limited Registration of another three doctors (in Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine) were submitted to the MCHK today.

At the same time, the HA also submitted to the MCHK renewal applications for Limited Registration of four non-local doctors who are now serving in public hospitals, whose one-year Limited Registration will expire in early 2014. The doctors, two in Anesthesia, one in Emergency Medicine and one in Internal Medicine, were recruited in 2012 upon the approval for practice under Limited Registration by the MCHK.
