Eastern District Chinese Opera Festival to start tomorrow

The following is issued on behalf of the Eastern District Council:

     The Eastern District Chinese Opera Festival co-organised by the Working Group on Tourism, Economic and Labour Affairs in Eastern District of the Eastern District Council (EDC) and local organisations will be launched tomorrow (November 6). The festival will offer opportunities for audiences to enjoy a variety of programmes, including performances of Chinese opera, a forum and guided talks.

     The Eastern District Chinese Opera Festival, to be held from tomorrow to mid-March 2014, aims to promote public understanding of Chinese opera as well as local tourism and the local economy. The Working Group and four local organisations, namely the Hong Kong Chinese Opera and Performing Arts Group Association, the Eastern District Arts Council, Hong Kong Island Chaoren Association Limited and Jin Jiang Clans Association (HK) Limited will present Chinese opera performances ranging from Cantonese opera and Chiu Chow opera to Fujian opera. Other attractions consisting of a forum and guided talks on Cantonese opera will also be held. Please refer to the Annex for details.

     The Eastern District Chinese Opera Festival will be launched with the opening ceremony cum Cantonese opera excerpt performance to be held tomorrow at the Sunbeam Theatre, North Point.

     Admission to all programmes is free and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call the relevant co-organisers for free tickets.
