Oil spill incident in waters off Ninepin Group

A spokesman for the Marine Department said today (November 5) that an ocean-going vessel had collided with a Mainland container ship about six nautical miles to the east of the Ninepin Group at about 1am this morning. The Mainland container ship sank later and patches of an oil slick were found in an area approximately 2 000 metres x 100 metres. The oil is believed to have leaked from the sunken Mainland container ship. The Marine Department has tasked its staff with the clean-up operation and has alerted relevant departments about the oil spill.
