Over 100 students join World Water Monitoring Challenge 2013 (with photos)
************************************************************

The World Water Monitoring Challenge 2013 (Hong Kong) organised by the International Water Association Regional Committee of Hong Kong, China and the Water Supplies Department (WSD) was held at Ngau Tam Mei Water Treatment Works today (November 2). It was well attended, with more than 100 secondary school students participating in the activity.

The WSD has organised the event annually since 2004 in response to the International Water Association's call for support. To increase public awareness and involvement in water conservation, secondary school students are invited to perform water tests at the WSD's waterworks facilities to learn more about the basic indicators of fresh water quality.

Under the guidance of the WSD's chemists, participants used simple kits to carry out water tests measuring four key water quality indicators: temperature, acidity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. The test results will be uploaded to the database of the World Water Monitoring Challenge.
