InnoCarnival 2013, organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, opened today (November 2) at the Hong Kong Science Park in Sha Tin.

The nine-day carnival, which runs from today until November 10, features a series of activities to help promote a culture of innovation and technology in the community. It is also one of the major events in support of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

Addressing the opening ceremony, the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, said that this large annual event offers an excellent opportunity for members of the public to gain first-hand experience of the latest developments in technology.

He noted that the InnoCarnival adopts a lively and easy-to-understand approach, enabling participants to learn about a wide variety of programmes and to see that innovation and technology are closely related to our daily lives.

At this year's InnoCarnival, more than 60 organisations including universities, R&D centres, technology enterprises, government departments and professional and youth bodies have set up exhibition pavilions or booths to showcase their latest R&D achievements.

About 30 talks, more than 300 InnoTech workshops and about 400 guided tour sessions are open to members of the public.

Another highlight is the multimedia variety show - the InnoShow - to be staged on the afternoon of November 9. The programme combines technology, creativity and multi-media techniques with music, fashion, dance, magic performances and interactive games.

Members of the public are invited to attend and admission is free. For programme details and enrolment for the activities please visit www.itm.gov.hk or contact the InnoTech Month's partner - the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (Tel: 2561 6149, email: itmonth@hkfyg.org.hk).
