Applications for new indicative area of Public Policy Research Funding Scheme welcomed
******************************************************

The Central Policy Unit (CPU) today (November 1) announced that to encourage academics and researchers to conduct policy research on the impact of the Internet and new technology on education, a new indicative research area - technology and education - will be added with immediate effect to the Public Policy Research (PPR) Funding Scheme. Eligible applicants are welcome to apply.

The rapid development of the Internet and technology continues to reshape learning and teaching. Making use of the Internet for e-learning has become a trend in many places and countries. The CPU therefore encourages academics and researchers to study public policies in areas such as learning through the Internet, the use of new technology in education and the impact of technology on education, drawing particularly on local and overseas experience. Research findings will be used for reference in policy formulation.

In July 2013, the CPU laid down seven major research themes, namely (a) land and housing, (b) poverty and ageing/retirement protection, (c) political development and governance, (d) external economy, (e) social issues, (f) economic development and (g) environmental protection, having regard to Hong Kong's current and long-term development as well as research needs on various social issues, for reference by tertiary institutions and think tanks. Applicants may also submit their own research areas for consideration by the Assessment Panel and the CPU. In addition, to enhance the flexibility of the Scheme, the CPU will invite applications for research on specific topics according to its research needs from time to time.

Details of the PPR Funding Scheme including eligibility criteria, the indicative research areas, the composition of the Assessment Panel and other information can be found on the CPU website (www.cpu.gov.hk). Applicants should complete the specified application form and submit it to the CPU, preferably by email (email: ppr@cpu.gov.hk).
