FEHD orders Yuen Long restaurant to suspend business for 10 days
************************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Yuen Long to suspend business for 10 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area.

The restaurant, located on the ground floor and first floor at No. 1 Yuen Long Tung Shing Lei Road, was ordered to suspend business from today (October 25) to November 3.

"In December last year and March this year, two convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $20,000 was levied by the court and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," he added.

The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 10 days rather than two weeks.

The licensee of the food premises had a record of two convictions for the same offence in October last year. A total fine of $20,000 was levied and 30 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for seven days in January this year.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is also available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
