*********************************************

In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Security Bureau said today (October 23), "The Security Bureau has been in initial contact with Mr Bernardito Ang, a Manila City Councillor, who just arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon.  As regards the resolution passed by the City Council of Manila which concerns the apology to the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong SAR Government and the families of the deceased and the injured of the hostage-taking incident, he, as the representative of the Mayor of Manila, requested to have a meeting with officials of the Security Bureau.  We will make the necessary and appropriate arrangement.

"The HKSAR Government will continue to do its utmost to follow up the incident with a single objective in mind which is to meet the requests of the injured and the families of the deceased as soon as possible, including apology, compensation, sanctions against officials responsible for the mishandling of the incident and devising and implementing effective measures to ensure the safety of tourists," the spokesman reiterated.
