Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 624 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 49 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (October 21) and a total of 305 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 446 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 178 for other traffic offences.

     Twenty-eight pedestrians and 116 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2 252 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to September this year, of which 725 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 47.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
