Measures implemented by Police to facilitate public events
**********************************************************

Police estimated that around 20,000 people attended the public procession held in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Admiralty this afternoon (October 20). In addition, the estimated number of people who had taken part in the public meeting at the Central Government Offices today was around 36,000. Most participants expressed their views in a lawful and orderly manner. However, during the procession, a small number of people ignored Police¡¦s appeals and warnings and entered the westbound fast-lane of Hennessy Road forcibly, causing inconvenience to other road users. Police had to take immediate resolute actions to minimise the impact upon public safety and public order.

It is the policy of Police to facilitate all lawful and peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and public order. Members of the public should comply with the laws of Hong Kong and maintain social order when expressing their views. Police were grateful to local residents and road users for their understanding and tolerance with regard to any inconvenience caused during the event.
