To encourage children from a disadvantaged background to plan for the future and develop an asset-building habit, the Government set up the innovative Child Development Fund in 2008. Five years on, more than 4 000 young people have benefited, helping to reduce inter-generational poverty.
The fund has just kicked off a new recruitment round, seeking eligible children and volunteer mentors to work with them.
Two young people who took part in initiatives under the fund - and their mentors - describe how the experience helped them set goals for their future and learn to save money to help reach them.
