First community hall in Kowloon City officially opens (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, today (October 18) officiated at the opening ceremony of the first community hall in Kowloon City, the Hung Hom Community Hall, signifying that community halls are now set up in all of the 18 districts to serve the public and further enhance their quality of life.

     Located at the Kowloon City Government Offices, the Hung Hom Community Hall is equipped with a multi-purpose hall with a seating capacity of 450 people, a conference room, dressing rooms and a multi-purpose function room. The audio and lighting equipment in the hall are also suited for use in various community activities.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Tsang said that the Hung Hom Community Hall, being the Home Affairs Department's 100th community hall, marks an important milestone.

     He added that community halls are public space. The Government's continued efforts to provide community halls in each district enable local groups to hold a wide variety of community activities that enrich the life of the public and enhance community cohesion.

     Mr Tsang said that Kowloon City is a multicultural district. Community halls are suitable as venues for holding activities which promote harmony and provide more contact opportunities between local residents and ethnic minorities.

     Other guests who attended the opening ceremony today included the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Leung Koon-kee; the Chairman of the Kowloon City District Council (KCDC), Mr Lau Wai-wing; the District Officer (Kowloon City), Mr William Tsui; and the Chairman of the Leisure and District Facilities Management Committee under the KCDC, Mr Cheung Yan-hong.

     The Hung Hom Community Hall was built by the Architectural Services Department and is managed by the Kowloon City District Office. The community hall has been open for public reservations since May this year.
