*********************************************************

The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) today (October 18) launched InnoTech Month 2013, which involves a range of activities to promote a culture of innovation and technology in the community.

Organised by the ITC with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation as campaign partners, InnoTech Month 2013 runs from today till December 7 and features an array of programmes including roadshows, workshops, a large-scale carnival, exhibitions, seminars and industry conferences. The event aims to offer members of the public an opportunity to see Hong Kong's achievements in innovation and technology, and to provide a communication platform for the industry to facilitate its long-term development.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong, said, "The ITC is committed to promoting a culture of innovation and technology (I&T) in Hong Kong. We encourage members of the public to gain first-hand experience of I&T achievements, so as to better understand the importance of I&T for the future development of Hong Kong."

By organising a wide variety of science education and publicity programmes, the ITC hopes to arouse young people's interest in I&T and nurture more technology talents, Miss Wong added.

Accompanying the launch of this year's InnoTech Month, a three-day roadshow will be held starting today at Cityplaza, at which winning entries of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2013 and other inventions will be on display, in conjunction with about 20 workshops. Another session of the roadshow will take place at Olympian City 1 from November 29 to December 1.

The highlight of InnoTech Month - the InnoCarnival - will be staged at Hong Kong Science Park from November 2 to 10. The nine-day event carries three main themes, namely Life Science, Green Technology and Robotic Engineering, with more than 60 organisations setting up booths or pavilions to showcase their latest research achievements. The InnoCarnival is one of the major events in support of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

Members of the public are invited to attend. Admission to the roadshows and the InnoCarnival is free of charge.
