Judicial appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (October 18) announced the appointment of the Honourable Mr Justice Andrew Colin Macrae, Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court, as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court. The appointment will take effect from October 21, 2013.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

     The biographical note of the Honourable Mr Justice Andrew Colin Macrae is as follows:

     The Honourable Mr Justice Macrae was born in 1956 in the United Kingdom. He obtained B.A. (Hons) from the Durham University, the United Kingdom, in 1978 and passed the Bar Examination of the Inns of Court School of Law in London in 1979. He was called to the Bar in England and Wales, in Hong Kong and in Brunei in 1979, 1983 and 2004 respectively. He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 1999. After serving in the then Attorney-General's Chambers in Hong Kong from 1982 to 1983, he had been in private practice since 1983. He served as a Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for periods in 2002 and 2003. He was appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court from 2006 to 2010, before his appointment as a Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in April 2010.
