Hong Kong Polytechnic University's new Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation brings together know-how from different community sectors for some serious brainstorming. Depending on the problem at hand, it may call in academics, experts from the trades, the Government, and non-governmental organisations, as well as the people they hope to help. The results are ingenious, practical solutions that appeal to their users - and make Hong Kong a better city.
Institute director Alvin Yip describes two projects that have emerged from this collaborative process - an improved hawker stall and an innovative concept vehicle to navigate Kwun Tong back alleys.
