The play "Wearing the Willow", produced by Cinematic Theatre and a finalist work of the 3rd Young Playwright Scheme, will be staged in November.
"Wearing the Willow" shares the message that the most painful thing about breaking up is not the loss of a lover, but the loss of oneself. The story takes place in the evening of Valentine's Day. Having just broken up with her boyfriend, Rainbow feels despondent about life and love. She escapes to the music room of a deserted secondary school and plans to take her own life there. There she meets Mac, a stranger who is whiling away his time with beer and cigarettes. Rainbow pleads with him to leave so she can end her life, but Mac refuses to budge and the two end up spending the night together.
The play is written by Freda Tse and directed by Lo Ching-man. The producer is Cathy Leung and the cast includes Masu Wong, Lana Leem, Stephen Leung and Claudia Lee.
Cinematic Theatre was founded by former Chung Ying Theatre Company (HK) member Lo Ching-man in February 2002. The theatre company is a non-profit-making organisation and its recent productions include "The Big Escape", "Dynasty" and "Angel's Gift". With continuous support from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council's Multi-Project Grant, the two-year Young Playwright Scheme is currently being held for the fourth time.
"Wearing the Willow" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be performed at 8pm on November 22 to 24 (Friday to Sunday) and at 3pm on November 23 and 24 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Cultural Activities Hall, Sha Tin Town Hall. Tickets priced at $160 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
