Man jailed for counterfeit banknotes offences

     A 26-year-old expatriate man was sentenced to an imprisonment of 20 months for counterfeit banknotes-related offences at the District Court today (October 8).

     The court heard that officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau arrested the man in March 2013. He was found to be in connection with five cases of uttering counterfeit banknotes which took place in North Point and Tsim Sha Tsui areas between November 2012 and January 2013, involving a total of 10 counterfeit $100 banknotes and one counterfeit $500 banknotes.

     The man was subsequently charged with five counts of passing or tendering counterfeit currency notes. He was convicted upon his own plea to the charges today.

Police reiterate that passing or tendering counterfeit currency notes is a serious offence. Police are determined to take preventive and enforcement actions against such crime to maintain a safe and stable business environment in Hong Kong.
