Transcript of remarks by SLW on mental health
*********************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on mental health after attending the launching of Mental Health Month 2013 and the annual Mental Health Walk today (October 6):

Reporter: (about Integrated Community Centres for Mental Wellness)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: Good progress has been made on setting up the Integrated Community Centres for Mental Wellness. We have now got 24 service points, 24 outlets in Hong Kong. Ten already have permanent premises, and six already have their premises earmarked, and in fact, renovation work is now continuing. Two also have their premises earmarked, but awaiting local consultation. The remaining six points, service points, actually the Social Welfare Department has adopted a flexible approach, enable the NGOs concerned to operate in rented commercial premises. The objective is to tide over the situation to enable them to provide services while permanent premises are being secured in the process. So we are very hopeful that it will not take very long that all 24 service points will be operating from permanent premises and I urge local community to adopt an accommodating attitude, because these centres do provide a valuable role, not only in helping the mental patients, rehabilitation alone, but also particularly to prevent, educate, and also to create an environment conducive to community rehabilitation of these needy people in Hong Kong.
