Public invited to exhibition on HK Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions

     Members of the public are invited to view the winning entries of the 38th Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library, Causeway Bay, from tomorrow (October 3) till October 5.

     Some 300 winning pieces from different categories of the competitions will be on display, including photography, painting, Chinese essay-writing, Chinese story-writing, Chinese calligraphy, slogan and poster creation, couplets and Chinese poetry-writing.

     Local calligraphists and painters will give demonstrations at the exhibition on October 3 (4.45pm), October 4 (4pm) and October 5 (4.30pm). Visitors may have the chance to obtain the artworks as souvenirs.

     In addition, video clips showing speech contests, classical Chinese poetry and Putonghua recitation competitions will be shown at the venue.

     Sponsored by the Home Affairs Department, the competitions have been jointly organised by the Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions Committee and various community organisations with support from over 70 organisations since 1975. The competitions aim to promote youth interest and understanding in Chinese language, arts and culture, and to encourage young people to participate in healthy extra-curricular activities. This year's competitions attracted over 15,000 entrants in 17 categories.

     The exhibition, which is one of the events of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, will be open tomorrow (4pm to 8pm), on October 4 (10am to 8pm) and on October 5 (10am to 6pm).

     Admission is free. Each visitor will receive a souvenir on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last.
