Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "A Splendid Concerto" by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged in November. Dr Yip Wai-hong will be the music director and host of the concerts.
Under the baton of guest conductor Dr Law Po-kwan, the concerts featuring young soloists will offer a fabulous programme including Sarasate's "Introduction and Tarantella, Op. 43", Saint-Saëns' "Violin Concerto No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 61 (1st Movement)", Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D, Op. 35 (3rd Movement)", Rachmaninov's "Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14", Bruch's "Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 26 (1st Movement)", Kabalevsky's "Violin Concerto in C, Op. 48 (1st Movement)", Vivaldi's "Bassoon Concerto in E Minor, RV484 (1st Movement)", Wieniawski's "Polonaise de Concert in D, Op. 4" and "Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22 (1st Movement)", and Khachaturian's "Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 46 (1st Movement)".
Founded by Dr Yip Wai-hong, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is a highly organised orchestra aiming at promoting music among the general public, especially the young generation in Hong Kong. In order to achieve its goal, the orchestra has given several hundred performances over the course of more than 30 years in the Hong Kong City Hall, regional town halls and civic centres. A number of internationally famous conductors and soloists have been invited to perform with the orchestra. By using the idioms of popular music and organising concert talks, the orchestra has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, and at the same time has brought about an awareness of the indigenous culture of the people.
Performing at the concert will be saxophone soloist Victoria Ng, bassoon soloist Anson Wong and violin soloists Macy Yau, Athena Shiu, Boris Li, Jonathan Leung, Li Zijun, Justin Ko, Jerry Lam and Louise Tsui.
