Government announces appointments of Vice-Chairman and members of Consumer Council

     The Government today (September 27) announced the appointment of Mr Philip Leung Kwong-hon as the Vice-Chairman of the Consumer Council for a term of two years with effect from October 7, 2013.

     Mr Leung will succeed Mr Ambrose Ho Pui-him, the incumbent Vice-Chairman, who will have served for six years on completion of his current term on October 6, 2013.

     Mr Leung is currently a co-opted member of the Council's Research and Testing Committee and IT Expert Advisory Group. He was also a member of the Council between 2007 and 2012.

     A Government spokesman said, "Mr Leung's commitment and enthusiasm in enhancing consumer protection has been well evidenced by his dedicated service on the Council over the past years. We believe that with his ample experience in various aspects of the Council's work, as Vice-Chairman Mr Leung will provide wise steer to the Council in protecting and promoting consumer interests.

     "We would also like to express our deep appreciation to Mr Ambrose Ho, who has made significant contributions and provided sound leadership to the Council during his tenure."

     The Government today also announced the appointments of three members to the Council for a term of two years with effect from November 1, 2013.

     The re-appointed members are Mr Samuel Chan Ka-yan and Professor Michael Hui King-man. The newly appointed member is Mr Steven Ho Chun-yin.

     "We are delighted that these three members from various sectors have accepted the appointment. We are confident that their experience and expertise will benefit the operation of the Council in delivering its functions," the Government spokesman said.

     Mr Fred Li Wah-ming will retire from the Council upon the expiry of his term on October 31, 2013. "During his tenure, Mr Li has actively participated in the work of the Council, including those concerning trade practices and product testing. We would like to express our gratitude to him for his contributions to the Council," the spokesman added.

     The appointment notice was published in the Gazette today.
