Regarding the earlier confirmation that some in-patients were Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers, the spokesperson of Tuen Mun Hospital made the following update today (September 26):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more 75-year-old male patient has been confirmed as a VRE carrier during contact tracing. He did not have related clinical symptoms and had been discharged earlier.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
