Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 519 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 11 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (September 23) and a total of 274 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 408 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 111 for other traffic offences.

     Thirteen pedestrians and 70 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,001 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August this year, of which 637 involved pedestrian. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 48.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
