North Lantau Hospital to commence patient services

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     North Lantau Hospital (NLTH) is scheduled to commence patient services in phases from Tuesday (September 24) to cope with the development of the Tung Chung district as well as to meet the medical needs of the community.

     The Hospital Chief Executive of NLTH, Dr Nancy Tung, said today (September 22), "In the initial phase, eight-hour accident and emergency (A&E) services will be provided from 9am to 5pm every day while allied health services and community services will also commence in the same period. Two new specialist out-patient clinics for medicine and psychiatry respectively as well as the new Community Health Centre will be put into operation from September 30 (Monday).

     "A&E services of the hospital will be extended in phases to 24 hours according to service demand and operational arrangements. Other specialty services such as surgery, orthopaedics and traumatology, paediatrics and gynaecology will also be gradually provided at different stages.

     "Upon full operation, NLTH will provide a total of 160 in-patient beds and 20 day beds, with a wide range of patient services including in-patient care, 24-hour A&E services, day hospital services and community nursing care.
 
     "As a hospital built to serve the community, NLTH is committed to providing quality health care to the public and we are devoted to fostering our partnership with the community."

     NLTH is one of the public hospitals under the Kowloon West Cluster to serve residents in the Tung Chung district.
