Transcript of remarks by STH (with video)
*****************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, at a media session after attending the "Luncheon Talk by the HKSAR Chief Executive on Long Term Housing Strategy" today (September 11):

Reporter: Home prices have not really gone down so far, so why do you insist that those measures have to stay in place?

Secretary for Transport and Housing: Those measures so far have been effective in terms of stabilising the property market. You could check from the statistics that before we introduced the two rounds of demand management measures, the sentiment in the market was quite exuberant. But once we have introduced those measures, actually the price level has stabilised. But, of course, prices are affected by a range of factors - some are external to Hong Kong. We feel that so far those measures have worked and we have been trying to impress the legislators that the sooner we pass the bill into legislation, the more certainty we could provide to buyers and sellers in the market.
