Abandoned mutt turns keen detector
**********************************

Noodle is one lucky dog. When his owner abandoned him at the age of 4 months, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department staff thought the friendly mongrel puppy would be an ideal candidate for its quarantine detector dog team. He sailed through the training programme to join the department's other dogs to sniff out smuggled animals and became the first mongrel quarantine detector dog in Hong Kong.

News.gov.hk met with a trainer and handler from the department, and some of the dogs, to learn how they are trained to help in the fight against animal smuggling. The story appears today (September 8) on the website in both text and video versions.
