The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (September 6) congratulated the Director of German Pool Group, Ms Karen Chan, and the Creative Director of Chocolate Rain Jewelery and Design Co Ltd, Ms Prudence Mak, for being honoured as Young Women Innovators at the 2013 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and the Economy Forum in Bali, Indonesia, together with leading Young Women Innovators from 20 other APEC economies.

"The honour is a recognition of the outstanding achievements of Ms Chan in the manufacturing industry and Ms Mak in arts and design, as well as their contribution as economic drivers in their respective fields," Mr So said.

The theme of the APEC Women and the Economy Forum this year is "Women as Economic Drivers". This is perfectly exemplified by the achievements of Ms Chan and Ms Mak.

Through her innovation in marketing and branding, Ms Chan has developed her company into a well-known brand for premium electrical appliances, kitchen cabinetry and equipment both in Hong Kong and overseas markets.

With her creativity and unique designs, Ms Mak has established a famous local brand exhibited and distributed internationally, in partnership with famous global brands.

The title of Women Innovator was introduced in APEC in 2011 as an initiative to recognise women who are successful technologists, entrepreneurs and innovators, whose contributions have opened wider opportunities to other women to participate in the economy. This year, APEC is giving specific recognition to young innovators aged below 40.
