Moon watching tips for Mid-Autumn Festival 2013
***********************************************

The Mid-Autumn Festival this year falls on September 19 (Thursday). Once again since 2004, the full moon (i.e. the moon at its roundest) will occur on the night (i.e. before midnight) of the Mid-Autumn Festival, to be seen at 7.13pm that evening. To facilitate moon-watching by the public, the times of moonrise, transit and moonset during the Mid-Autumn Festival period are given below. During transit, the moon passes the local meridian due south and its elevation is the highest of the night.

September 18 (Wednesday)
Moonrise                       5.25pm
Transit                       11.32pm
(elevation 65 degrees)
Moonset                        5.42am (next morning)

September 19 (Thursday) (Mid-Autumn Festival)
Moonrise                       6.07pm
Full Moon                      7.13pm
(East, elevation 14 degrees)
Transit                        0.22am (next morning)
(elevation 70 degrees)
Moonset                        6.41am (next morning)

September 20 (Friday) (The day following Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival)
Moonrise                       6.49pm
Transit                        1.12am (next morning)
(elevation 75 degrees)
Moonset                        7.38am (next morning)

If weather permits, a bright and clear moon can be observed from open space in all districts during the period.

For the weather during the Mid-Autumn Festival period, please refer to the "7-day Weather Forecast" issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/currwx/fnd.htm.
