Fatal traffic accident in Wan Chai

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Wan Chai this (September 2) morning in which an 86-year-old woman died.

     About 10.45am, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 52-year-old man was travelling along Johnston Road towards Central. When approaching near Tai Wo Street, it reportedly knocked down the 86-year-old woman who was crossing the road.

     The pedestrian was trapped under the MGV and was later certified dead at scene after being rescued by firemen.

     The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is still being detained pending further enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island, are underway.
