Albert Ho to host Violin Music Appreciation Series

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has invited Albert Ho to host a lecture series on violin music (to be conducted in Cantonese).

     Albert Ho has been teaching music studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for more than 10 years, and is currently teaching theories of music, music technology and music recording. Ho's interests are wide and varied, covering teaching, composition, arranging, electronic music and recording. Ho holds a Diploma in Education and a Master of Music degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He trained in flute under Timothy Wilson, oboe under Peter Cooper, violin under Dr Ryker, vocal under Hwang Lu-Rhen and Clara Yip, and composition under David Gwilt and Victor Chan. Ho has been a part-time oboist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and a flautist with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.

     In his keen efforts to promote music, Ho often hosts talks for various organisations. Recent events have included pre-concert talks on the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Flute Music Lecture Series and Forces of Nature in Music. Ho is also a regular host discussing topics covering the music of Vienna and Bach etc. for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). He was the music director of the plays "Twelfth Night" and "Trojan - A Sequel", and composed and arranged for "The Balcony", "Lost Under the Blue Moon" and "The Life and Death of Almost Everybody". He also wrote overtures for several RTHK television series.

     All lectures start from 7.30pm and each talk is about 1 hour 30 minutes long. Tickets priced at $50 (each session) are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).  A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for group booking package, please refer to programme leaflets for details.
