The Subcommittee on Poverty of the Legislative Council's House Committee continued its duty visit in Taiwan yesterday (August 23) to learn about the measures on alleviating poverty in Taiwan.
The delegation visited the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee under the Legislative Yuan in the morning and met with members of the Committee to exchange views on social welfare and labour policies relating to poverty alleviation.
In the afternoon, the delegation met with officials of the Labor Affairs Department and the Social Welfare Department of the New Taipei City Government to learn about the policies and measures of the city Government on working poverty and elderly poverty. Members of the delegation then visited Yi-An Senior Day Care Center to get to know its operation. In addition, the delegation called on the Ministry of Health and Welfare and met with officials of the Ministry's Department of Social Assistance and Social Work to learn about Taiwan's policy on poverty as well as the welfare and long-term care services for the elderly. Views were also exchanged on the issues of poverty alleviation.
The delegation will depart for Tokyo today (August 24) and continue its duty visit.
