Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 641 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 51 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (August 21) and a total of 289 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 497 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 144 for other traffic offences.

     Fourteen pedestrians and 114 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,753 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year, of which 572 involved pedestrian.  Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 47.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
