Hong Kong Customs yesterday (August 17) smashed a drug trafficking attempt by outgoing passengers at Shenzhen Bay Control Point and seized 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine, 220 tablets of MDMA (ecstasy) and 17 grammes of cannabis seeds with an estimated value of about $1.28 million.
Customs officers yesterday afternoon intercepted a seven-seater private car destined for the Mainland for clearance. Three suitcases and a set of audio equipment were found in the car. Upon investigation, 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine was found inside an amplifier. Another 220 tablets of ecstasy and 17 grammes of cannabis seeds were found from one of the arrestees and in one of the suitcases respectively.
Two men, aged 29 and 42, were arrested for trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case is still under investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
