The spokesperson for Kowloon East Cluster made the following announcement today (August 16) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a pulmonary ward in Haven of Hope Hospital:
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. Five more male patients, aged 60 to 87, were confirmed to be VRE carriers but without clinical symptoms. All the concerned patients are under medical surveillance and isolation. They are in stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
