Chief Executive's Office statement

     In response to a statement issued by the Hong Kong University Students' Union today (August 14), the Chief Executive's Office issued the statement below:

     The incident involving Miss Lam a month ago has given rise to extensive discussions in the community with divergent views. As the matter concerns our education system, the Chief Executive has asked the Education Bureau to submit an objective, fair and impartial report. The Education Bureau will follow up on the incident under its established mechanism.

     As regards the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Chief Executive reiterates his opposition against any person or political party seeking to take advantage of the ICAC for political purposes.

     Lastly, the Chief Executive has never requested the Police to carry out any political mission.
