The spokesperson for Kowloon East Cluster made the following announcement today (August 13) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a pulmonary ward in Haven of Hope Hospital:
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more male patient, aged 81, was confirmed to be a VRE carrier, but without clinical symptoms. The patient concerned is now under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
