Candidate nomination for HKADC Nomination Exercise 2013 to commence tomorrow
***********************************************************

The two-week candidate nomination period for the Nomination of Representatives of Arts Interests for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) in 2013 (the Nomination Exercise 2013) will commence tomorrow (August 13). The Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) encouraged arts practitioners who wish to seek candidature to submit their applications as soon as possible.

The HKADC was established to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong. The term of office of its current members will expire on December 31, 2013. The HAB is conducting an exercise to nominate arts interests representatives for the Chief Executive's consideration of appointment as members of the HKADC for the next term.

The voter registration of the Nomination Exercise 2013 has been completed with a total of 8 512 registered voters recorded. A spokesperson for the HAB said today (August 12), "We hope that the arts community will continue to take an active role in the subsequent phases of the exercise. Candidate nomination for the exercise will start tomorrow and we urge those who aspire to represent their respective interests to participate in the work of the HKADC to seek candidature."

The two-week candidate nomination period will run from tomorrow to 5pm on August 26. A prospective candidate has to be a registered voter of the particular arts interest for which he or she is standing as a candidate, and nominated by at least five proposers, or 1 per cent of the total number of registered voters in the same arts interest (whichever is higher). A proposer must be a registered voter of the same arts interest as the prospective candidate and may nominate only one candidate in this Nomination Exercise. The number of proposers required for each of the 10 arts interests is as follows:

Arts Interest         Number of Proposers Required
-------------         ----------------------------
Arts Administration               5
Arts Criticism                    5
Arts Education                    9

Applicants seeking candidature should submit completed forms together with all the required supporting documents to the Nomination Agent in person or by their authorised persons before the deadline.

There will be a five-week electioneering period for the candidates after the close of the candidate nomination phase. The Nomination Agent will organise a candidate forum on September 14 and 15 for candidates to present their platforms and address their voters. Polling is scheduled for October 6 and 7. Details of the candidate forum and polling will be announced later.

Registered eligible voters will receive from the Nomination Agent the voter notification letters and candidate application forms within this week. Those who fail to receive these materials by August 17 may contact the Nomination Agent, PR Concepts Asia Limited, at 2232 3932 or email info@voteforhkadc2013.hk.
