Japanese director Takayuki Fujimoto and choreographer Tsuyoshi Shirai will return with a new multimedia dance production entitled "Node / The Old Man of the Desert" in September.
Connecting dance, light, video and technology, "Node / The Old Man of the Desert" reveals the ultimate reality of the body and the information age. Made in collaboration with butoh and contemporary dance performers, a musician and a team of computer programmers, Fujimoto's production is an allegorical performance concerning the body and digital technology, reflecting the unprecedented situation we are facing today.
In the Node, a traffic hub where people from around the world come and go, an old man from the desert knows almost everything of the world. In areas ranging from data to information to the cognitive senses, the body becomes a platform in creating perception and meaning. In a time when it is hard to determine genuineness in information, can we depend on our senses in understanding the truth? Is there still true knowledge that can nurture wisdom?
"Node / The Old Man of the Desert" is one of the programmes in the "Boundless Multimedia Series" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be performed in English at 8pm on September 20 and 21 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on September 22 (Sunday) at the Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $200 and $260 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for various booking packages, please refer to the programme leaflet for discount details. A post-performance talk will be held after the first performance. Please note that this production contains nudity.
The "Boundless Multimedia Series" also includes "Spiral of Life" by All Theatre Art Association (September 27 to 29 at the Theatre of Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre).
