Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases in Kowloon East Cluster

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Kowloon East Cluster made the following update today (August 8) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in Tseung Kwan O Hospital (TKOH):

     In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed in TKOH and Haven of Hope Hospital (HHH). Two more male patients (aged 64 and 93) were confirmed as VRE carriers without clinical symptoms. They are now under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition at HHH.

     The hospitals will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
