Fatal traffic accident in Wan Chai

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Wan Chai this morning (August 8) in which a 32-year-old man was killed.

     At about 4.35am, a taxi driven by a 32-year-old man was travelling inside the Cross Harbour Tunnel towards Hong Kong Island, while a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 41-year-old man was travelling inside the tunnel towards Kowloon. The two vehicles collided inside the tunnel tube.

     The taxi driver was trapped inside the compartment. He was rescued and rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in unconscious state where he was certified dead at 5.22am.

     The LGV driver was also injured and was sent to Ruttonjee Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.

      The case will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island.
