Showcasing Hong Kong's vibrant music scene, popular band Noughts and Exes gave an inspiring performance at the annual Water Music Festival in Berlin on August 3 (Berlin time). Organised by the House of World Cultures and sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin), the 2013 edition of the festival is running from July 18 to August 11 under the theme of "The New Pacific".

Presenting bittersweet harmonies, orchestrated with violin, cello, glockenspiel, guitars, piano and melodica, Noughts and Exes covered the full spectrum from intimacy to pathos. About 1 000 people enjoyed the concert, which was followed by a performance by renowned Australian guitarist Robert Forster and a screening of multiple-award-winning Australian movie "The Goddess of 1967".

Noughts and Exes is a critically acclaimed indie folk-rock band based in Hong Kong. Their second album, "The Start of Us", gained worldwide recognition and saw the band atop many year-end Best of 2010 charts. In 2011, Time magazine named Noughts and Exes among Asia's "Five New Bands to Watch". Noughts and Exes have performed in Canada, the United States and across Asia, and the show at the Water Music Festival in Berlin was the band's first ever performance in Europe.

Following the performance of William Shakespeare's tragedy "Titus Andronicus" by Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio in July and the Noughts and Exes concert at the Water Music Festival, the HKETO Berlin will continue to explore opportunities for further exchanges between Hong Kong and Germany in the cultural sector. In October and November, two Hong Kong Film Festivals will be staged in Hamburg and Berlin.
