Sport For All Day proves to be a popular event (with photos)
************************************************************

Sport For All Day 2013, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), was held successfully yesterday (August 4). The event attracted over 220 000 people to participate in free recreation programmes at designated venues in the 18 districts and to enjoy free use of the LCSD's leisure facilities.

"Over 198 000 people used our free facilities yesterday, an increase of 6 per cent compared to the figure last year. The majority of the booked facilities were taken up by hirers and most of the remaining few were reallocated to walk-in applicants on a first-come, first-served basis," a spokesman for the LCSD said today (August 5).

"It was encouraging to see the high usage of the facilities - particularly the main arenas, which had a usage rate of more than 97 per cent," the spokesman added.

Over 122 000 people enjoyed swimming for free in the LCSD's swimming pools yesterday. Fifteen swimming pools reached their maximum capacity during the peak hours in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, over 29 000 people took part in the free recreation programmes held at designated sports centres in 18 districts. These programmes included fitness corners, exercise demonstrations, parent-child sports programmes and sports play-ins.

Sport For All Day 2013 was one of the highlight events of the "Vibrant Hong Kong" theme under the city-wide "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign. The event encouraged members of the public and their families to nurture a habit of doing physical activities for at least 30 minutes a day, and its slogan was "Stay active. Exercise every day with your family".

The spokesman said the LCSD will continue to promote sport for all in the community and the benefits of doing exercise regularly as part of daily life for a better healthy lifestyle.

To encourage members of the public to establish a healthy lifestyle through regular physical exercise, the LCSD has launched the new "Fitness Walking" mobile phone application (app).

Users can make use of this app to learn more about fitness walking and the 33 LCSD fitness walking tracks in the 18 districts, as well as navigate to the nearest fitness walking tracks through the global positioning system and record the data of each walk.

In addition, the app also features several health calculation tools, such as those for calculating body mass index, calorie consumption in walking and target training heart rate.

The app for Android OS can be downloaded from play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lcsd.walking while the version for iOS will be launched later.
