SED continues official visit to Singapore (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, today (July 30) continued his official visit to Singapore, looking into the provision of kindergarten education, teacher training and the use of information technology in education in the country.

     Leading a Hong Kong delegation, Mr Ng visited Kidz Haven PCF Boon Lay Kindergarten where they were briefed by the principal on the kindergarten's development and services, followed by a tour around its facilities and class observation.

     The delegates also visited the National Institute of Education, Singapore, to learn about its teacher training programmes and its Classroom of the Future which demonstrates the possibilities of key technologies and solutions for teaching and learning.

     To look into the application of information technology in education in Singapore, the delegation visited Ngee Ann Secondary School. Designated one of the East Zone Centres of Excellence for Information and Communication Technology, the school constantly seeks to apply innovative teaching and learning methods to enhance the quality of education and to support other schools.

     The delegates then moved on to Nanyang Polytechnic, where they visited the School of Engineering and the School of Information Technology.

     The delegation will fly to Melbourne, Australia, tomorrow on the second leg of its study tour. In addition to SED, other members of the delegation include the Chairman of the Committee on Free Kindergarten Education, Dr Moses Cheng; conveners of its sub-committees; the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mrs Betty Ip; and the Administrative Assistant to the SED, Mr Kenneth Cheng.
