The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will tomorrow (July 28) lead a delegation to Singapore and Melbourne to learn about the latest developments of kindergarten education and teacher training in the two cities. He will also take the opportunity to promote Hong Kong as a regional education hub in Asia.
During his visit to Singapore, Mr Ng will meet with the Minister for Education and other officials to exchange views on education. The delegation will also visit a variety of schools ranging from kindergartens to post-secondary institutions to look into the latest development of local education services.
Mr Ng and other delegates will fly to Melbourne on July 31, where he will meet with the Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, State of Victoria. They will also visit an early learning centre, a kindergarten, a special development school and universities.
On August 1, Mr Ng will officiate at the opening ceremony of a roving exhibition at the University of Melbourne, which aims to promote Hong Kong as a regional education hub.
During the overseas visits, Mr Ng will take the opportunity to meet with Hong Kong students, business leaders and academics for exchanges and to update them on the latest developments in Hong Kong.
Other members of the delegation include the Chairman of the Committee on Free Kindergarten Education, Dr Moses Cheng, and conveners of its sub-committees; the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mrs Betty Ip; and the Administrative Assistant to the SED, Mr Kenneth Cheng.
Mr Ng will return to Hong Kong on August 3. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
